The Pirate and the Pagan by Virginia Henley - FictionDB
It was drawn out a little over the king and his cout. I knew half way through Rory and Rourk were the same person But other than that a good read. Aug 01, Sasha Campbell rated it did not like it. Started reading this book and I can't seem to go any further. What a load of crap I don't know what the hell i'm reading one minute they see each other the next their married and in love how just how I'm trying really hard to understand this book!

First read this book when I was 16 and have read it multiple times since. Sure, its a little cheesy but all good bodice rippers are! Dec 04, Luisa rated it it was amazing. The first book I read by Virginia Henley and then I had to read the rest of the series. Jul 15, Kaitlin rated it it was ok. I wanted a trashy junk food book, and that is exactly what this was. Mar 17, Haley Hughes rated it liked it. This book is rapey and tropey and kinda terribly written and I am not an expert on racism but parts of it also felt racist. It has fallen far in my favor. That said. There are some very funny bits and the Black Cat scenes are fantastic.
Auntie Lil is still very loveable and I enjoy how good natured many of the bawdy bits are. I don't think I could recommend it any more though. I only finished it because I have a so on reread. I only finished it because I have a hard time not finishing things. It's one of my favorites. Probably my favorite romance I've ever read. I know it looks cheap an cheesy. It is.
The Pirate And The Pagan
It is also perfect. It is hilarious and sexy and suspenseful and has a lot of twists and turns.

The main character is so not who I am but she is this fantasy of being a cool broad with a ton of fiery personality. Truly, you should read it. May 07, Wandax21 rated it it was ok Shelves: romance , romance-historical , heroine-too-stupid-to-live , secret-hidden-identity. An adventurous story. The love between Ruark and Summer could be so simple and beautiful, if not for her smuggling brother. They quarrel and Summer flees into the arms of Rory, Ruark's brother. This one is a pirate and also the same person as Ruark.

The reader recognizes this immediately. Why Summer does not see it is the biggest downer in the story. Only a white strand of hair and a beard distinguish the "two", but she does not get it. Only then doe An adventurous story. Only then does she realize that both brothers are one man.
TSTL heroine. Mar 18, Elle Rito rated it liked it. I really wanted to give this 2 stars since I think that Summer was too proud and childish. Half of the time I spent reading frustrated with her but since it was brutally honest about human nature I decided that I liked it enough to give it a 3. Humans only appreciate what they have when it's gone.

It painted the debauchery of the ton in a way that made it seem less disgusting and more factual than it deserved. I would have wanted less of that and more of political machinations. Overall, it was an I really wanted to give this 2 stars since I think that Summer was too proud and childish. Overall, it was an interesting read but one I am not about to repeat soon. Mar 04, Slayermel rated it really liked it Recommends it for: anyone who enjoys a good historical romance. Shelves: female-authors , 20th-century , bookcrossing , romance , pirates , historical-romance , american , , bookmooch.
I really enjoyed this book because it was written a little different then the usual ones I read. Lady Summer and Lord Ruark Helford get together fairly early in the book and discover their love and then it's a battle of wills between the two of them throughout the book. There are so many steamy love scenes I can't even count them. The story moved fast and I could not put it down.
Great Story. Mar 29, Takumay Diazsingco rated it really liked it Shelves: p-book. I really don't know what is the exact words to use if I'm going to say something about this book. I'm just pretty sure enough that this book is not for kids. Its seems that I'm investigating a crime scene that I have all the evidence I need to prove my suspicions right, but I can't charge any case against my suspect for if I did, I might look like an idiot at the end, for there is one simple piece that is missing, that you will only know if you are already on the last page of the trial.
Oct 21, Tanya Jenkins rated it really liked it. I realized the twist at the very beginning but it was fine. This book kept my interest until the very end but It should have ended with her going to him to Helford Hall. The whole prison scene should have been edited out. It left me feeling disgusted and I feel it went way to far. She pushed the envelope here and I don't think that it benefited her to do so.
Other than that Must read! Jan 04, Coral rated it really liked it Shelves: bought , tophr-nautical. I enjoyed this book way too much. Angst, complicated characters, a twist I called it, but had to confirm before I kept reading ; they just don't write them like this any more. I liked the Restoration setting. Henley obviously did her homework and research, which enriches the book. The world building is excellent. Nov 24, Tina rated it it was amazing Shelves: my-favorites. This is the first romance novel I ever read.. I loved it I later learned this style of writing is also called as bodice rippers which I thought to be funny.
Getting lost in books is such a needed break from reality and this type of book is sometimes just what the doctor ordered :.
